About the Speaker:

Dr. Laurie Burney is the Associate Professor and J.E. Bush Professor of Accounting at Baylor University. She brings a wealth of experience and insight to this session, with a strong focus on management control systems and Lean thinking.
Laurie currently serves as the president of the IMA’s Stuart Cameron McLeod Society and is an Associate Editor for the IMA Educational Case Journal. She is also a past-president of the IMA Texas Regional Council and served three years as the IMA’s Professor-in-Residence, where she acted as a bridge between academics and professional practice.
Her teaching has been recognized with the R. Lee Brummet Distinguished Award for Educators, the Lean Enterprise Institute’s Excellence in Lean Accounting Faculty Award, and the Mark Chain/FSA Innovation in Graduate Teaching Award.
Dr. Burney teaches advanced managerial accounting and is passionate about preparing students and professionals to think critically, act ethically, and lead strategically. She also contributes her expertise as a board member for the Educational Foundation for Women in Accounting.
She holds a BBA from Austin Peay State University, an MBA from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. Laurie is a CMA, CSCA, and a CPA (inactive in Tennessee).
