Topic Synopsis:
Delegating to direct reports is valuable for developing those direct reports and for freeing up managers’ time to handle more challenging and valuable tasks, but still many people have difficulty delegating effectively. This course goes through the benefits and challenges associated with delegating and six steps to work through in delegating. In addition, we cover important skills in coaching and feedback that make delegation more successful. Learn what to specifically consider and do in order to be more effective and successful with delegation.

Learning Objectives:

After this session, you will be able to:

  • Define delegation.
  • List the benefits and challenges associated with delegation.
  • Describe how to assign tasks and responsibilities to others.
  • Identify key management skills involved in delegation.
  • Indicate coaching principles needed for delegation success.

About the Speaker:

Billie Drake has been active in IMA since the mid-nineties. During that time she has served as President of both the Tucson and Las Vegas Chapters, President of the Wild West Council, and has served on several Global committees. She was also President of the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society and served on the IMA Global Board of Directors. Billie served for five years on the Committee on Ethics, and has given Ethics presentations and workshops in California, Oklahoma, Arizona and Nevada. Her work experiences are varied, covering such industries as Construction Development and Management, Advertising, Insurance, and Entertainment, as well as working in Social Services and on Political Campaigns. She is currently a member of the IMALA, and has presented various topics from their library.
