Join us for our April Meeting at the Magnolia Houston Hotel.  Katrina Hendrix, CIA, CFE, PMP will be our speaker.  The topic is, "​Unconscious Bias in the Workplace: How hidden biases may be affecting your decisions and what you can do about it"


Items covered at this session will be:

  • What is unconscious bias and why does it exist?
  • Different types of biases and real life examples of these
  • We all have hidden biases. How to identify yours
  • Why does it matter? How our hidden biases can affect our decision making, such as hiring and promotion decisions, who we ask to do special projects, who we put on teams, how we treat our stakeholders and others in the office.
  • What we can do? How to prevent our biases from affecting our business decisions

Bio: Katrina Hendrix, CIA, CFE, PMP - Katrina is an Internal Audit, Compliance and Risk Management professional with fourteen years of experience. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2004 with a Master's Degree in Accounting before starting her career in Grant Thornton's Advisory Services practice in Raleigh, NC. Katrina spent eleven years in progressive compliance and internal audit roles in Houston's energy sector, during which time she became passionate about diversity and inclusion initiatives. She founded and led the women's employee resource group for Columbia Pipeline Group in 2015 and has since spoken multiple times on the topic of unconscious bias. Katrina recently moved back to North Carolina to join Advance Auto Parts as Senior Manager of Internal Audit.
